About the Author

Hi, I am Andre Theus.

I’m a Germany-born travel publisher based in Santa Barbara, California. I grew up in Germany, now live in the United States, and have spent more than 20 years traveling back to Europe through short trips, family visits, extended stays, and multi-country itineraries.

Castles & Chocolate is where I publish practical Europe travel guides for people who want more than a list of famous sights. The focus here is on realistic itineraries, regional travel ideas, interactive maps, family-friendly routes, and the tradeoffs that matter when planning a trip.

My perspective is shaped by both sides of the Atlantic. As a dual U.S. and German citizen, I understand how American travelers often approach Europe, and I also know how travel feels on the ground once you are actually there: the train connections, the driving distances, the parking tradeoffs, the heat, the crowds, the meal timing, and the difference between a good itinerary and an exhausting one.

Family travel is a major part of the site. My wife and I travel frequently with our young son, and that has changed how I think about Europe. A trip that looks perfect on paper can fall apart quickly if it ignores walking distances, downtime, playgrounds, pools, snacks, and realistic pacing.

The goal is simple: help you plan a Europe trip that feels thoughtful, manageable, and worth remembering.
